Non Formal Education in Tharparkar Gives Children a Second Chance to Learn

Non Formal Education in Tharparkar is transforming lives by bringing learning opportunities to children who were once excluded from the education system.

Every morning, Viju, Chetan, Dolat, Mohan, Darsi, and Kirshan walk across the desert fields of Thar with their livestock — a responsibility they have carried since childhood. For years, poverty and hardship kept them away from school, making education seem like an impossible dream.

Today, that dream is becoming a reality.

With the support of the Directorate of Literacy & Non-Formal Education (DL&NFE), Government of Sindh, and the efforts of Thar Education Alliance, a Non-Formal Education Centre has been established in Kesre Ji Dhani, Islamkot, giving these boys a second chance to learn.

After long hours in the scorching desert sun, they now spend their evenings in the classroom — holding notebooks instead of shepherd sticks, learning to read, write, and build a brighter future.

Their story is a powerful reminder that education can reach every child, everywhere — even in the heart of the desert.
